MC4A Fifth Annual Membership Meeting and Scholarship Awards Drawing

Mount Carmel Area Athletic Alumni Association held its fifth annual Membership Meeting and Scholarship Awards Drawing at Mattucci’s Willow Café.  Attending were members and students who applied for the scholarship awards.

                      The Mount Carmel Area Athletic Alumni Association (MC4A) is a non-profit organization with the mission of providing scholarships for Mt. Carmel Area students who have participated in a sport or supported interscholastic athletic programs while attending Mount Carmel Area High School, and in doing so also establish a bond between graduates and current students.

 Following the meeting, the Scholarship Awards Drawing was held, in which six scholarships were awarded and two special awards.  The awards ceremony was hosted by Dan Ficca along with Robert Colahan.  The members,  applicants and their parents were welcomed and it was noted that 40 students applied for the awards.

A change was made to the dollar amount of our awards.  If a winning student is a current dues paying member or if any family member is a current member the award is increased from $1,500 to $2,000.

Debra Fletcher - Daughter of Susan and Michael Fletcher of Kulpmont.  Debra is a senior, majoring in Nursing. While attending MCA, Debra was on the girls soccer team 4 years and was statistician 4 years for the junior high boys basketball team.

Kristen Helper - Daughter of Janet and Mark Helper of Kulpmont.  She is a junior at Penn State University, majoring in Communications. While attending MCA, Kristen played softball, intramural volley ball, powder puff football and was a cheerleader.

Jocelyn Jaworski - Daughter of Angela and James Jaworski of Atlas. Jocelyn is a sophomore at Lebanon Valley College, majoring in Math. While attending MCA, Jocelyn was on the cheerleading squad  4 years and captain her senior year, was on the pep squad for 2 years and also played basketball.

Casey Kane - Daughter of  Lori and Paul Kane of Atlas. Casey is a sophomore at Bloomsburg University with an undeclared major. While attending MCA, she participated in volleyball and track & field.

 

James Lesko, II - Son of Corrine and James Lesko of Kulpmont, is a junior at Bloomsburg University, majoring in Philosophy and Economics. While attending MCA, he participated in freshman football, basketball, played baseball and intramural basketball.

Jordan Politza - Son of  Laurie Credito of Mount Carmel, is a Junior at Bloomsburg University, majoring in Engineering. While attending MCA, he participated in wrestling, cross country, track & field and freshman football.

Marcus Wasilewski - Son of Mark and the late Lisa Wasilewski of Den Mar Gardens, Mt. Carmel Township, is a sophomore attending the University of Maine majoring in Pre-Med/Biology.  While attending MCA, Marcus was an all-state football player and was on the WNEP dream team.

Jeffrey Woytowich - Son of  Maryanne and Michael Woytowich of Marion Heights, is a senior at Millersville University, majoring in Technology Education.  Jeff graduated from Penn College of Technology with an Applied Science Degree in Collision Repair. While at Penn College was a member of the Lacrosse team. While attending MCA, he was a 4 year member of the wrestling team achieving many awards, including quickest pin (25 seconds),  most improved, Academy Award, Atlas American Legion Award and coaches award. He also participated in golf and track & field.

 

 The applicants were encouraged to continue to do well in furthering their education and reminded them that they can apply again next year if they continue to meet the qualifications.

Before the ceremony, food and refreshments were available to all.
